Maple Family Update February 23-27

Wear anything you have that is pink for the day, but remember, anti-bullying is more than just wearing a t-shirt, and so we encourage families to have discussions around bullying and bullying prevention. Often, bused students find alternative ways to school and we want to ensure we know the whereabouts of every student to ensure their safety and well-being. Knowing who is supposed to be at school will allow school office staff to best ensure all students are accounted for. Students are asked to ensure they use the Main Entrance doors and report to the Office if arriving after the 9:15 bell.The reporting tool has two options regarding transportation:<ul class="editor-list-ul"><li value="1" class="editor-listitem" style="text-align: start;">Inclement weather (all transportation types and walkers) for any inclement weather days when your student will not be attending school.</li><li value="2" class="editor-listitem" style="text-align: start;">Transportation (not weather-related) for any non-weather-related transportation reason when your student will not be attending school (e.g., when a bus is cancelled due to a driver shortage).</li></ul>We recognize this is a change in practice but one we are making to ensure student safety and well-being. Maple Family Update February 9th-13th

Students will engage in friendly competition while learning curling terminology, scoring, and more. Custom scoreboards and mini curling lanes will turn the gym into an iceless curling rink ready for FUN!We are asking families for a donation of $2.00 so that everyone at the school can experience an introduction to curling. Please visit School Day to donate. Every Kindergarten, Primary and Junior class will participate in one of the two physical education programs that they offer: instructional or bonspiel tournament.The instructional program includes a variety of drills, relays, and team-building activities that introduce students to the sport of curling and wheelchair curling with a focus on FUN!The tournament option creates an interactive curling bonspiel right in our school gym! Students will engage in friendly competition while learning curling terminology, scoring, and more. Custom scoreboards and mini curling lanes will turn the gym into an iceless curling rink ready for FUN!We are asking families for a donation of $2.00 so that everyone at the school can experience an introduction to curling. Please visit School Day to donate. If you have any puzzles or games good for ages 4 to age 12 with all their pieces we would love to take them off your hands. On the included poster is a list of board game and card game ideas some teachers were interested in but we are happy with any games you may have at home collecting dust. Maple Family Update December 1-5

<h3 class="editor-heading-h3" dir="ltr">Hello Maple Families!</h3>Happy December! We are coming close to our Winter Break, and it looks like winter has arrived!A couple very important announcements:1) Staff Parking LotPlease do NOT park in our staff parking lot or idle for pick up. It is very important for safety reason, especially during the winter season! We will have to deal with slick road conditions and high snowbanks, which means less visibility and slower reaction time around a busy student area. We do have parking along the street, as well as Accessible Parking spots at the front of the school off of Rose Abbey Drive. If you are dropping off or picking up well before or after school for the Y Program or extra-curriculars, you ARE able to access that parking lot.If you have arrangements already made with an educator to meet in the parking lot, please make alternative arrangements, as we want to be very diligent with students safety, and it takes efforts from our entire Maple community to make this happen.Thank you for your support!2) We are currently looking for consistent and emergency staff to help support on the yards and with students in the school. The large parking lot at the back of the school is intended for staff only. Please refrain from parking in these spaces, or pulling into the parking lot at all for pick-ups.</h3><h3 class="editor-heading-h3" dir="ltr">Parking here or pulling into the bus lane poses potential danger and accidents, especially during times where buses are being unloaded or loaded.</h3><h3 class="editor-heading-h3" dir="ltr">We are asking all community members to park on the road, or find a side street to park your car while you come pick up your students. In his memory, École Maple Elementary School will be collecting nut-free breakfast cereals for the Food Sharing Project throughout the month of November. We are hoping to gather yellow boxes of cereal, such as Cheerios or Shreddies.
