Maple Family Update January 26th -30th

We have had a record 7 Snow Days out of 15 days of school! Then this weekend we went right into -35 temperatures!We hope you are all bundled up and enjoying the weekend. Looks like snow will keep coming our way. Every Kindergarten, Primary and Junior class will participate in one of the two physical education programs that they offer: instructional or bonspiel tournament.The instructional program includes a variety of drills, relays, and team-building activities that introduce students to the sport of curling and wheelchair curling with a focus on FUN!The tournament option creates an interactive curling bonspiel right in our school gym! Students will engage in friendly competition while learning curling terminology, scoring, and more. If you have any puzzles or games good for ages 4 to age 12 with all their pieces we would love to take them off your hands. On the included poster is a list of board game and card game ideas some teachers were interested in but we are happy with any games you may have at home collecting dust. Purchasing “Peps” helps raise funds that will be donated back to our school, so show your support and buy as many as you can!We Need Your Help!We are still looking for volunteers to help during the Chuck‑A‑Puck event. We need volunteers to help sell Peps (foam pucks) on the concourse, as well as to collect peps from the ice at the 2nd intermission. Kids are welcome to help! Often, bused students find alternative ways to school and we want to ensure we know the whereabouts of every student to ensure their safety and well-being. Knowing who is supposed to be at school will allow school office staff to best ensure all students are accounted for. Students are asked to ensure they use the Main Entrance doors and report to the Office if arriving after the 9:15 bell.The reporting tool has two options regarding transportation:<ul class="editor-list-ul"><li value="1" class="editor-listitem" style="text-align: start;">Inclement weather (all transportation types and walkers) for any inclement weather days when your student will not be attending school.</li><li value="2" class="editor-listitem" style="text-align: start;">Transportation (not weather-related) for any non-weather-related transportation reason when your student will not be attending school (e.g., when a bus is cancelled due to a driver shortage).</li></ul>We recognize this is a change in practice but one we are making to ensure student safety and well-being. Maple Family Update January 19th -23rd

It has sure been quite the January so far! About Our School

Bienvenue à École Maple Elementary School , home of the Majors. We are a Kindergarten to Grade 6 school offering French Immersion and English programming to students in Kingston East. Our three-storey school was opened in 2013 and includes more than 34 classrooms, a variety of special purpose and resource rooms, a library/makerspace and 6,000-square-foot gymnasium. Our school is equipped with shared technology in every classroom (iPads and Chromebooks), allowing access to all. Our building features green construction to reduce energy use and waste production. The overall environmental footprint is reduced due in part to high efficiency heating/cooling systems, low-flow water fixtures and other sustainable-focused improvements.

2026-2027 School Year Calendar Survey

The Limestone District School Board is developing the 2026-2027 school year calendar. With Labour Day falling later than usual in 2026, the creation of a balanced and consistent calendar has presented more challenges than in typical years.We continue to receive inquiries about the possibility of introducing a fall break. During the 2023–2024 school year, students, families, staff, and community members were surveyed on this topic. Due to the way the calendar year falls and contractual agreements, implementing a fall break is not something we are able to consider for the upcoming 2026-2027 school year.In collaboration with our coterminous boards—the Algonquin and Lakeshore Catholic District School Board and the Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board—we have prepared four calendar options for consideration. Limestone welcomes all students, promoting and encouraging families to attend their area school, but we understand that it is best interest of some students to attend an out-of-boundary school and that selecting the right educational setting for your new student is a significant decision.Selecting an out-of-boundary school for your new student is a decision influenced by many factors. The school may be closer to a workplace or near a childcare provider that might be more convenient for drop-off and pick-up routines. In accordance with board policy, by default, students will be enrolled in the school designated within their boundary area, based on their home address.We aim to accommodate family preferences, but please note that out-of-boundary placements are not guaranteed, and families will be responsible for organizing transportation to and from out-of-boundary schools.Students may be permitted to attend any school within the board when there is available student space, upon submission and approval of the proper application. The board will not be held responsible for the provision of any transportation for students outside of their regular school boundary area.
