Hello Maple Families,
Students are continuing to settle into their classrooms, routines, and learning spaces at Maple. It has been wonderful to see students reconnecting with friends, building new relationships, and showing kindness and respect throughout the school.
Highlights this week included our Terry Fox assembly, where students learned about Terry Fox and his Marathon of Hope. Maple has set a fundraising goal of $15,000 this year. Last year, our school community raised $17,000, so we are hopeful that, together, we can reach our goal once again. Thank you for supporting this important cause and helping students learn about perseverance, courage, and making a difference. On Tuesdays this month, we will be wearing our Terry Fox t-shirts to support our fundraising!
Thank you to families for continuing to support students as they adjust to the school year. As we move into next week, classroom routines and learning programs will continue to build, and students will have more opportunities to connect, participate, and grow as part of our Maple community.
A few reminders for families:
- School Day continues to be our primary platform for permission forms, school products, trips, and events. Please log in regularly to check for updates.
- Safe Arrival should be used to report student absences each day.
- Lunch Box programs, including Milk Mondays and Subway Fridays, will begin later this month.
- Please continue to check Tri-Board Transportation for bus cancellations or delays during inclement weather.
- As a reminder, starting class placements are subject to change if actual enrolment numbers should require school reorganization. If a reorganization is necessary, information will be shared this week.
- Our school website remains the best source for school news, updates, and important dates.

School Advisory Council Update
Looking to 2026/2027
The 2026/2027 school year will look a little different as we begin a rebuilding year for our School Advisory Council. We would love to strengthen our community by welcoming more parents and guardians to get involved. In September, please consider nominating yourself or someone you know for one of the available roles.
1 Simple Way to Help
If you are a parent or guardian, we invite you to choose one event or School Advisory Council meeting to attend or support this year. Your involvement helps show our children the importance of community and allows students and families to enjoy meaningful events together. These opportunities also help us build stronger connections across our school community.

Note on last year's Summer Send-Off
Like all Maple families, we were very disappointed that Summer Send-Off had to be cancelled. Weather is always unpredictable, and unfortunately, it determined the outcome. Our team of parents, volunteers, and community partners was also saddened by the cancellation. Due to timing and other bookings, we were unable to reschedule the event. We plan to try again this year and apologize for the disappointment this caused many students and families.

Many roles are looking for new caretakers on the School Advisory Council (SAC) for the 2026-2027 school year. École Maple's SAC is a combination of parents, guardians, and community members who volunteer in many capacities to contribute to the betterment of the school community. The council includes a variety of roles that can align with the amount of time you are able to commit. Please watch for an email with details on SAC nominations. Available roles include Chair, Vice Chair or Co-Chairs, Treasurer, Secretary, Volunteer Coordinator, Fundraising Coordinator, Communications Coordinator, Indigenous Family Representative, Division Representatives for Kindergarten, Primary, and Junior, and PIC Representative.

Medical Plans of Care
If your student requires a medical plan (i.e., Asthma, Anaphylaxis, Diabetes, etc.) or is required to take medication at school, please submit the required paperwork as soon as possible. Plans of Care and the associated paperwork can be emailed to maple@limestone.on.ca. More information regarding Plans of Care is available on the LDSB website.
A Safety Note
If you are dropping students off in the morning in the main parking lot, please don't send them to walk alone across the bus lane. Please walk with them. Thank you for helping to ensure student safety.

2026-2027 Busing details are available in the Student Portal.
Keep informed of late and cancelled buses by visiting the TriBoard website portal. Click on the Delays and Cancellations to check the status of your child's bus.

Crossing Guard Information
Crossing guards are in place to help students and families travel safely to and from school. A new crossing guard is also be at Highway 15 and Rose Abbey Drive/Waterside Way.
Highway 15 and Rose Abbey Drive/Waterside Way crossing guard times:
- Morning: 8:40–9:15 a.m.
- Afternoon: 3:25–4:00 p.m.
Families are reminded to follow the directions of crossing guards, use designated crossings, and drive with extra care around the school. Thank you for helping keep our students safe.
Reporting A Student Absence
Please use the Safe Arrival system to report your child's absence; do not call the school to report an absence. If your child is going to be absent from learning, please ensure you use the Safe Arrival system to report the absence. If your child will be late, please report a full day absence and then we will sign them in when they arrive. You cannot indicate a half day absence.
How to report your absence:
1. Toll-free telephone
- Call 1-855-257-9349 toll-free to report an absence using the automated phone system.
2. School Messenger App
- Use your mobile device to download and install the free SchoolMessenger blue app from the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store, the SchoolMessenger website portal, or from within the LDSB mobile app.
- The first time you use the app, you must select Sign Up to create your account. Please ensure you use the same email address your student’s school has on file. If you do not use that same email address, you will not be able to create an account, or may not be able to see the "Attendance" option. You may have already created an account when we introduced the Communicate broadcast system.
- Select Attendance, then select Report an Absence and follow the prompts.
3. SchoolMessenger SafeArrival Website Portal
- Visit the SchoolMessenger website portal.
- The first time you use the app, you must select Sign Up to create your account. Please ensure you use the same email address your student’s school has on file. If you do not use that same email address, you will not be able to create an account, or may not be able to see the "Attendance" option. You may have already created an account when we introduced the Communicate broadcast system.

SCHOOL-DAY
Limestone DSB uses an application called School-Day to allow families to complete permission forms and make payments for school-related events, products, and activities easily and securely online. Parent/Guardians create an account in School-Day and to link their student(s). Visit the School-Day website portal.

School Trips and Volunteers
If you wish to volunteer or attend field trips with your child's class you will require a valid Vulnerable Sector Check on file with the school board prior to going, we cannot accept it at the school on the day of the event. It must be valid within the last 6 months.
To facilitate this process, prospective volunteers should contact the office for a letter to take to the police detachment that covers the area in which they reside.
Once received, the prospective volunteer must upload their completed police record check to LDSB Police Record Check Portal. The school will then have access and if there are any questions, they will call the prospective volunteer.
There was new legislation introduced for the education sector and there is no leeway for anyone who does not hold a valid VSC. Information on acquiring a VSC in Kingston is available here: www.kingstonpolice.ca/services/background-check/
Concussion Protocols
The Limestone District School Board is committed to helping all students succeed and lead safe, healthy, and active lives. As part of its commitment to student safety, injury prevention, and well-being, the Ministry of Education supports concussion awareness, prevention, identification, management, tracking, and training in schools through legislation, policy, and resources.
On March 7, 2018, the Ontario government enacted Rowan’s Law (Concussion Safety), 2018, and amended the Education Act, to protect amateur athletes, including students, by improving concussion safety on the field and at school. The amendments to the Education Act came into force on July 1, 2019, and give the Minister of Education the authority to require school boards to comply with policy and guidelines on concussions, consistent with Rowan’s Law.
All school boards in Ontario are required to have a policy on concussion safety for students. These are outlined in Administrative Procedure 142: Concussions, as well as a variety of supporting resources and documents that outline a code of conduct for students and families, flow charts to identify and diagnose a concussion and assessment and management forms. The Ontario Physical Activity and Safety Standards in Education has information on their website regarding the concussion protocol.

School board self-identification is based on any degree of Indigenous ancestry (Status, Non-Status, Métis citizenship, etc.). Self-identification can be withdrawn at any time.
