Hello Maple Families,
What a fantastic first week we have had at Maple! Our classrooms, hallways, and playgrounds have been filled with smiling faces, new friendships, and excitement for the year ahead. It has been wonderful to see students settling into routines, reconnecting with friends, and enthusiastically engaging in learning opportunities across the school.
Thank you to our families for helping make the start of the school year such a success. We appreciate your support in preparing students for new routines and helping them arrive ready to learn each day. A special welcome again to our new Maple families. We are so glad you are part of our school community and hope your first week has been a positive experience.
As we move into our second week, classroom routines and learning programs will continue to become established. Students have been demonstrating our Maple values of kindness, respect, responsibility, and perseverance, and we are proud of the positive start they have made.
A few reminders for families:
School Day continues to be our primary platform for permission forms, school products, trips, and events. Please log in regularly to check for updates.
Safe Arrival should be used to report student absences each day.
Lunch Box programs, including Milk Mondays and Subway Fridays, will begin later this month.
Please continue to check Tri-Board Transportation for bus cancellations or delays during inclement weather.
As a reminder, starting class placements are subject to change if actual enrolment numbers should require school reorganization. If a reorganization is necessary, information will be shared in the coming weeks.
Our school website remains the best source for school news, updates, and important dates.
Students in Grades 1-6 are not permitted to use cell phones during the school day. If a phone is brought to school, it must remain silent and out of sight throughout the day, including during recess and nutrition breaks. If you need to communicate with your child during the school day, please contact the office and we will be happy to assist.
We also encourage everyone to continue showing their support for military families by wearing red on Fridays. We are proud of our connection to the military community and appreciate the many families who serve our country.
Thank you for a wonderful first week. We are looking forward to an exciting month ahead filled with learning, growth, and opportunities to connect as a school community.

Medical Plans of Care
If your student requires a medical plan (i.e., Asthma, Anaphylaxis, Diabetes, etc.) or is required to take medication at school, please submit the required paperwork as soon as possible. Plans of Care and the associated paperwork can be emailed to maple@limestone.on.ca. More information regarding Plans of Care is available on the LDSB website.
Tri-Board Busing Information
2026-2027 Busing Details Available in the Portal
Bus routes were finalized on August 24, 2026 and student details are available in the Student Portal.
Adjustments are still being made as Triboard continues to process applications. All routes were frozen on August 24, 2026 and remained that way through the first week of school. The next update to bus routes will occur on Tuesday, September 8th.
Families can still apply for a later start date. Families will need to make alternative travel arrangements for students to get to school until the “start date” indicated in the Student Portal. Requests to switch buses or stop locations will not be reviewed until late September or early October.
Keep informed of late and cancelled buses by visiting the TriBoard website portal. Click on the Delays and Cancellations to check the status of your child's bus.

Crossing Guard Information
Crossing guards are in place to help students and families travel safely to and from school. A new crossing guard is also be at Highway 15 and Rose Abbey Drive/Waterside Way.
Highway 15 and Rose Abbey Drive/Waterside Way crossing guard times:
- Morning: 8:40–9:15 a.m.
- Afternoon: 3:25–4:00 p.m.
Families are reminded to follow the directions of crossing guards, use designated crossings, and drive with extra care around the school. Thank you for helping keep our students safe.
Reporting A Student Absence
Please use the Safe Arrival system to report your child's absence; do not call the school to report an absence. If your child is going to be absent from learning, please ensure you use the Safe Arrival system to report the absence. If your child will be late, please report a full day absence and then we will sign them in when they arrive. You cannot indicate a half day absence.
How to report your absence:
1. Toll-free telephone
- Call 1-855-257-9349 toll-free to report an absence using the automated phone system.
2. School Messenger App
- Use your mobile device to download and install the free SchoolMessenger blue app from the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store, the SchoolMessenger website portal, or from within the LDSB mobile app.
- The first time you use the app, you must select Sign Up to create your account. Please ensure you use the same email address your student’s school has on file. If you do not use that same email address, you will not be able to create an account, or may not be able to see the "Attendance" option. You may have already created an account when we introduced the Communicate broadcast system.
- Select Attendance, then select Report an Absence and follow the prompts.
3. SchoolMessenger SafeArrival Website Portal
- Visit the SchoolMessenger website portal.
- The first time you use the app, you must select Sign Up to create your account. Please ensure you use the same email address your student’s school has on file. SCHOOL-DAY
Limestone DSB uses an application called School-Day to allow families to complete permission forms and make payments for school-related events, products, and activities easily and securely online. Parent/Guardians create an account in School-Day and to link their student(s). Visit the School-Day website portal.

Student Accident Insurance
The Limestone District School Board requires that students have student accident insurance in order to participate in extra-curricular activities. Before students will be allowed to participate in these events, parents/guardians must confirm their own coverage for items not covered under the Provincial Health Plan, or purchase an insurance plan.
Each year a Student Accident Insurance Plan is made available to all students on a voluntary basis. The plan provides protection for dental damage due to accidents, fracture benefits and other important coverage, which are not covered under the Provincial Health Plan. Some parents may have dental plan coverage through their workplace but many of these plans are limited in one way or another, while this accident coverage is not. You should compare plans to make sure you have the coverage you need or desire.
In making this plan available, the Board wishes to make its position clear in the matter of insurance. Under the Education Act, the Board is not permitted to provide insurance coverage for accidents to pupils, therefore, the Board recommends consideration of this plan to any parent who wishes to obtain this kind of insurance. Although the policy has all the advantages of a group plan, it is essentially a direct contract between the parent and the insurance company.
A family plan is also available for three or more students which permits the enrolment of students in the family who are attending schools outside the jurisdiction of this Board as long as at least one child in the family is attending a school within the Limestone District School Board.
If you wish to subscribe to this insurance, you may do so by completing the form handed out to students the first week of school and mailing it directly to Reliable Life Insurance Company in the stamped envelope provided. Or, for your convenience, you may purchase directly online at www.insuremykids.com.
School Trips and Volunteers
Throughout the year, we may ask for parent/guardian volunteers on school trips or for various classroom and school activities. The wait time for obtaining a CPIC (background check with vulnerable sector screening) can be lengthy. As such, if you think you would be willing to assist with a trip or school event in the future, please consider obtaining a CPIC with vulnerable sector screening completed, beforehand. Concussion Protocols
The Limestone District School Board is committed to helping all students succeed and lead safe, healthy, and active lives. As part of its commitment to student safety, injury prevention, and well-being, the Ministry of Education supports concussion awareness, prevention, identification, management, tracking, and training in schools through legislation, policy, and resources.
On March 7, 2018, the Ontario government enacted Rowan’s Law (Concussion Safety), 2018, and amended the Education Act, to protect amateur athletes, including students, by improving concussion safety on the field and at school. The amendments to the Education Act came into force on July 1, 2019, and give the Minister of Education the authority to require school boards to comply with policy and guidelines on concussions, consistent with Rowan’s Law.
All school boards in Ontario are required to have a policy on concussion safety for students. These are outlined in Administrative Procedure 142: Concussions, as well as a variety of supporting resources and documents that outline a code of conduct for students and families, flow charts to identify and diagnose a concussion and assessment and management forms. The Ontario Physical Activity and Safety Standards in Education has information on their website regarding the concussion protocol.

School board self-identification is based on any degree of Indigenous ancestry (Status, Non-Status, Métis citizenship, etc.). Self-identification can be withdrawn at any time.
