Hello Maple Families,
What a January so far! We have had a record 7 Snow Days out of 15 days of school! Then this weekend we went right into -35 temperatures!
We hope you are all bundled up and enjoying the weekend. Looks like snow will keep coming our way. Let hope we can have our first regular week this week (besides the PA day on Friday!).
A few things coming up this week:
- Photo retakes and class photos Tuesday
- Dress cozy on Thursday, and spend some time at school reading your favorite books!
- PA DAY Friday January 30th. No school!
See you next week!
The Ecole Maple Team
Class Photo Day is Tuesday, January 27th
Rocks & Rings At Maple
Egg Farmers Rocks and Rings by Curling Canada will be at Ecole Maple for 6 days in February. Every Kindergarten, Primary and Junior class will participate in one of the two physical education programs that they offer: instructional or bonspiel tournament.
The instructional program includes a variety of drills, relays, and team-building activities that introduce students to the sport of curling and wheelchair curling with a focus on FUN!
The tournament option creates an interactive curling bonspiel right in our school gym! Students will engage in friendly competition while learning curling terminology, scoring, and more. Custom scoreboards and mini curling lanes will turn the gym into an iceless curling rink ready for FUN!
We are asking families for a donation of $2.00 so that everyone at the school can experience an introduction to curling. Please visit School Day to donate.
Literacy Week At Maple
This week (Jan. 26th-29th) we are celebrating Literacy Week with some fun activities at school! Please see the poster attached for our activities. For some fun at home literacy activities why not make mealtime family learning time! See this WEBSITE for resources including activities from famous author and illustrator Barbara Reid!
Please note that all upcoming SAC Hot Lunch Days will be rescheduled to the following Monday when there is a Snow Day on the scheduled date. It is important for students to bring their own lunches on Snow Days if they come to school.
Subway Lunch Box orders will be cancelled on Snow Days. All students who ordered will have a credit on their account. It is important for students to bring their own lunches on Snow Days if they come to school.
Hello Families,
We are looking for used board games and puzzles for use during indoor recess in all grades. If you have any puzzles or games good for ages 4 to age 12 with all their pieces we would love to take them off your hands. On the included poster is a list of board game and card game ideas some teachers were interested in but we are happy with any games you may have at home collecting dust. If you have other items at home you think might be a good fit for indoor recess entertainment don't hesitate to reach out to parent council or Amber Murray.
You can send items in with your child at any time or drop them off to the school on February 3rd between 3:30-6.
Chuck-A-Pep Join Us for Ecole Maple Day at the Kingston Frontenacs Game On Sunday, February 1st
We are excited to announce the return of a fantastic community event for École Maple families! On Sunday, February 1st, 2026 at 1:00 PM, our school will be featured at the Kingston Frontenacs vs. Peterborough Petes game as part of the Chuck‑A‑Pep Fundraiser. This is a wonderful chance to enjoy a fun family outing while supporting our school. Funds raised will support student focused school initiatives at École Maple Elementary!
Tickets: $26 per person

What is Chuck-A-Pep?:
Ecole Maple volunteers will be selling Peps (Foam Pucks) on the concourse throughout the game leading up to the 2nd period. At second intermission fans get to throw the foam “Peps” at the pizza target at center ice, and the closest puck to the center ice target wins an amazing prize - a team signed hockey stick! Purchasing “Peps” helps raise funds that will be donated back to our school, so show your support and buy as many as you can!
We Need Your Help!
We are still looking for volunteers to help during the Chuck‑A‑Puck event. We need volunteers to help sell Peps (foam pucks) on the concourse, as well as to collect peps from the ice at the 2nd intermission. Kids are welcome to help! All volunteers do need to purchase a game ticket to attend and volunteer. Any volunteers going on the ice are required to wear a helmet and skates or clean shoes.
If you can lend a hand, please sign up here: https://signup.com/go/wQxjvXJ
Thank you for supporting our school community. We hope to see you there cheering on the Fronts!
Warm regards,
École Maple Parent Council (School Advisory Council)
Report Weather or Transportation Related Absence
All parents/guardians are asked to report their student’s absence regardless of the reason, including during bus cancellations. Often, bused students find alternative ways to school and we want to ensure we know the whereabouts of every student to ensure their safety and well-being. Knowing who is supposed to be at school will allow school office staff to best ensure all students are accounted for. Students are asked to ensure they use the Main Entrance doors and report to the Office if arriving after the 9:15 bell.
The reporting tool has two options regarding transportation:
- Inclement weather (all transportation types and walkers) for any inclement weather days when your student will not be attending school.
- Transportation (not weather-related) for any non-weather-related transportation reason when your student will not be attending school (e.g., when a bus is cancelled due to a driver shortage).
We recognize this is a change in practice but one we are making to ensure student safety and well-being. Thank you for your support and understanding.
During the winter, Tri-Board utilizes professional weather monitoring & forecasting
services and works closely with our school bus companies to determine if it is safe to offer school bus transportation on inclement weather days.
A bus is cancelled in a weather zone if it serves a school or has a bus stop located in the weather zone. Buses may be cancelled in other zones based on local conditions.
Schools will remain open however any students driven to school by parents/guardians will need to be picked up at the end of the day.
